[HanCinema's News] Won Bin Skips Press Conference for 4k Rerelease of "Taegukgi"

The war film "Taegukgi" is a major moment in South Korean film history. The 2004 film earned over 11 million admissions at the South Korean box office, and was one of the first major blockbusters in the South Korean market. It helped jump start the careers of Jang Dong-gun and Won Bin as brothers serving in the Korean War. The 4k rerelease of "Taegukgi" on the film's twentieth anniversary has thus attracted a fair amount of attention- but not enough for Won Bin to attend the press conference.

In all fairness, Won Bin effectively retired from the South Korean entertainment industry in 2010, declining to take any new roles after his lead appearance in "The Man From Nowhere" that year. So his unwillingness to appear in public again for this rerelease isn't shocking, as much as a disappointment as it may be to his many fans. The remastered war film also ranks 11th in theatrical reservations. Director Kang Je-kyu and Jang Dong-gun, still active in South Korean film, naturally attended the press conference.
