Green Film Festival in Seoul opens May 19

The 7th edition of the Green Film Festival in Seoul (GFFIS) kicks off May 19th and runs to the 26th at the Lotte Cinema AVENUEL in downtown Seoul. Opening the event is Canadian documentary Water Life by director Kevin McMahon. A total of 100 films from 30 countries will screen during the festival.

Under the banner 'Cinema Manifesto for a Living Earth', GFFIS will this year present a special focus section titled Focus 2010 – All About Water. The festival's only competition section, the Green Competition, will screen 20 films selected from 776 submissions to vie for four awards Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Jury Award and the Audience Award.

A Korean Eco-Panorama section will introduce new Korean environmental films including the film version of Tears in Amazon, a mega-hit TV documentary, Memories of Daechuri - depicting the lives of Daechuri residents after their land was selected for the Pyongtaek US Military base expansion, Earth's Women, revealing the joys and sorrows of women who have worked the land, and The Last Mermaids about the last female divers in Jeju Island.

Other program sections include Climate Change and Future, Green Panorama, Animal – Our Sweet and Wild Companion, Children of the Earth, and Keepers of the Earth. The festival website is available at http://en.gffis.org
