[HanCinema Awards] Best Historical Drama of 2017 - Cast Your Vote!

The sageuk, or historical drama, is one of the earliest forms of Korean drama and the basis for what we know and love. Over the years it has evolved to include all sorts of fusion such as fantasy and time travel elements. The year of 2017 saw quite a few wonderful sageuk. Vote for your favorite of this year's historical dramas from December 24 to January 7. Results for all categories will be released starting on December 30!

"My Sassy Girl - Drama" - The 2001 "My Sassy Girl" inspired Joseon-era re-make with a couple as quirky as the original.

"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" - A tale of a man wounded by circumstance who fought for justice, his people, and his loved ones. There are some epically moving performances in this drama.

"Ruler: Master of the Mask" - The tale of a leader who traversed adversity and his own insecurities on a bumpy path to the throne.

"Saimdang: Light's Diary" - A tale that crossed the centuries, linked by a painting, and by inextricable fate.

"Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" - The story of beautiful, talented men and their journey to protect the throne.

"Queen for 7 Days" - One of the most moving sageuk about a queen who was crowned and deposed within seven days and her tragic love story with her king.

"Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" - A tale set in the modern day with its core found in the past that is frought with pain and tragedy. The present is completely informed by the events of the past and the tie creates a compelling story.

"The King Loves" - The tale of a king, his best friend, and the woman who they love and they shape their destinies and the prince's path to the throne.

"Live Up to Your Name" - This was a through fusion of past and present with a clever time-travel mechanism, loveable characters, and a driving, engaging plot.

"Chicago Typewriter" - Set between a tumultuous time for Korea when Koreans fought against Japanese occupation and the present, the storytelling, friendship, and portrayal of the journies of not only the heroes, but the Korean people, is exceptionally thought out.
