Three new entries and a reshuffle at the top was the state of affairs over this past weekend. "My Love, My Bride - 2014", "Manhole", and "Dracula Untold" were the only new films to feature as both "Whistle Blower" and "Slow Video" surrendered the podium after only a week as the country's one and two. The top performer was the romantic comedy "My Love, My Bride - 2014", a remake of Lee Myeong's 1990 original that grabbed over 27% box office pie to top chart in its opening weekend.

"My Love, My Bride" (featuring Cho Jung-seok and Shin Min-a) attracted 485K filmgoers across 629 screens, and was trailed by another newcomer: "Dracula Untold". This dark fantasy flick recounts the tale of "Vlad the Impaler", aka Dracula, in an action epic that has only just managed to keep its international earnings in the black. Koreans responding warmly, however, to the vamp's cold record thus far, and it claimed 339K victims across 477 screens; that's just under a fifth of the total tickets sold.

Last weekend's number one and two ("Whistle Blower" and "Slow Video") followed "Dracula Untold" with 260K and 159K respectively. Yim Soon-rye's true-life drama was once again able to keep ahead of Kim Yeong-tak's family comedy, but the gap has significantly increased from the 17K that separated them last weekend. Wes Ball's sci-fi action film "The Maze Runner" followed in fifth, adding another 153K to its new total of 2.5M ($18.1M), while the spinoff "Annabelle" (a coproduction between Warner Brothers and Korea) settle in sixth with 146K of its own.

The American musical drama "Begin Again" (with Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo) fell just the one place to seventh, claiming 151K and moving its total now to 3.2M ($24.6M). "Begin Again" was released in Korea on the 13th August, and has been a constant feature in the top ten ever since. Eighth and ninth belonged to home team, with Shin Jae-young's "Manhole" and Yim Pil-sung's "Scarlet Innocence" scoring just over 5% between them. "Manhole", an urban thriller released last Wednesday, claimed 48K over 286 screens, while Pil-seong's melodrama fell four places with its allotted 41K. The weekend's top ten was the rounded out by the Japanese animation: "Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters: The Great Dinosaur Battle! Farewell Our Eternal Friends" on 38K (1.9%).
