"Beyond the Reality of Korean Division"

Over the years South Korea's dream machine has attempted to capture the ongoing tension with North Korea in one cinematic form or another. "Division is one of the most common themes found in cinema and the topic is especially sensitive for Koreans", writes Hwang Hee-yun. "Looking Back on 2017 in the Korean Film Industry"

KoBiz writer Christopher Weatherspoon pulls back the lens for a wider view of Korea's exciting cinema scene in 2017. As Weatherspoon says, there were a variety of genres that found a place in the top 10 this year, including "A Taxi Driver", "Confidential Assignment", "The Battleship Island", and "The Fortress".
