"Alice In Earnestland Hits 30,000 Admissions Mark"

Ahn Gook-jin's low-budget, R-rated comedy drama has managed to pass 30,000 admissions. The film is Ahn's first as a director, and has been getting good press thanks to its lead actress: Lee Jung-hyun. The actress has appeared in a number of roles, including the dramas "Family Outing" and "Beautiful Days", as well as a few features ("The Admiral: Roaring Currents", "Juvenile Offender" and Park Chan-wook's iPhone-shot "Night Fishing"). Could "Alice In Earnestland" achieve a kind of cult status? Stay tuned.

"The South Korean Film Renaissance: Local Hitmakers, Global Provocateurs"

For those who believe "the more you low, the better it gets" I'd suggest Jinhee Choi's 2010 book on Modern Korea cinema entitled, "The South Korean Film Renaissance: Local Hitmakers, Global Provocateurs": "For the past decade, the Korean film industry has enjoyed a renaissance. With innovative storytelling and visceral effects, Korean films not only have been commercially viable in the domestic and regional markets but also have appealed to cinephiles everywhere on the international festival circuit".
