[HanCinema's Drama Review] "God's Quiz Season 4" Episode 3

The theme of this episode is dancing. I use that term rather loosely here- it may be the central plot point in terms of this mystery the team is working to solve, but regarding the troupe of detectives who are our continuing lead characters? I suppose there's one scene of metaphorical dancing, as a bit of social confusion ensues when someone arrives who's unaware of the pecking order. And there's literal dancing, in another scene of cute voyeurism.

But can voyeurism really be cute when this drama is, at the same time, also trying to sell us on the threat of imminent danger to one of the team members? Granted, one is a fakeout and the other is just more buildup. Even so, there's an odd sort of mishmash to the drama's balance between comedy and drama. I'm not really sure which way it's supposed to go although I'm guessing, again, that if I saw the first three seasons and knew more of the history, I might be more accustomed to the tone.

The tone isn't terrible, just to be clear. We never get to "Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team" levels of comedy directly undercutting any attempt at drama or mystery. "God's Quiz Season 4" does a very good job segregating its humor from the more unfunny bits. It's only reflecting on the episode's greater themes that I note it's disjointed. At the time actually watching the drama, everything seemed to work out fairly well technically.

The continuing problem I have with "God's Quiz Season 4" at this point is that I just don't find any of the proceedings particularly interesting. Certainly they're done with flare and style. The drama has this mild obsession with creepy blood. Except it's also very clean, medical blood, since the investigators are always working a crime scene. Everything seems fresh but a little disjointed, if that makes any sense.

The drama is flled with little elements like this. Stuff that feels immediately clever, but never really ties up into anything more impressive down the line. The production values here are good, and the mysteries are of a decent quality, so I'm not really sure why I don't feel all that much love for "God's Quiz Season 4". I especially can't decide whether I want this drama to do more investigation team developent or stand-alone mysteries. Part of it might just be that the drama's trying to do too much at once, but I don't really know what should be removed, if anything. All a matter of taste really.
