[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Don't Dare to Dream" Episode 10

Jealousy blooms in full force and begins to inform bigger decisions for Hwa-sin than just his stalker-like tendencies. His emotions grow larger and more powerful than his ego and can no longer be ignored or excused away. As Hwa-sin gets a handle on his feelings, Jeong-won and Na-ri are growing closer through time spent together, earnest conversation, and rather adorable interactions.

Despite Jeong-won's silence on his family-led marriage prospects (that I fully believe he should've told Na-ri about before they started dating,) his current courtship of her is honest, very rigorous, and full of sincerity that is an excellent foil for Hwa-sin's muddied emotions. Jeong-won is battling the trappings and problems of the rich: marrying for social, political, and monetary benefit; parent-driven romantic matches; a lack of autonomy in a chaebol child. Jeong-won struggles to take back his power and part of that is dating Na-ri. It makes me wonder if she's a way to prove to his family that he is independent, or if he truly does like her. In any case, Jeong-won and Na-ri are adorable together. They have a sweet puppy love tinged with the sexiness of an adult couple - it's awesome.

While the couple progresses, so does Hwa-sin in his realization that he likes Na-ri. Their drunken night spent together that was full of laughs and games proves their chemistry and her concern for him keeps his heart kept in a Na-ri-shaped vice. As he is less and less able to control his feelings for Na-ri, he is more likely to explode and make harmful decisions. An example is the one at the end of the show, risking a friendship for a love he long denied. I like how no one in this show walks the straight and narrow road. They all make mistakes and have to grow. Hwa-sin is definitely going to have things to make up for by the time this drama is over and I can't wait to watch him do it.

As for Ppalgang and her mothers, Ppalgang finally explodes and opens up to the clueless women. Her father was poor, but he gave to her in ways that counted. He was always there to cook for her, pick her up from school, and was always physically there to support her. Neither mother did that for her. The admission spurs the two caring, but slightly under-qualified women into trying that much harder. It's great. Throw in the Chef who has zero sexual compulsion due to a psychological block who is given sexual stimulant pills and we have one charged apartment building. The two mothers are trying to win over their child and over their landlord, while the landlord is trying to stay away from them and help the child. Complicated, and fun.
