[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Remember" Episode 18

Jin-woo's embarrassing moment of memory loss notwithstanding, it turns out there is in fact a crucial, subtle inconsistency in the black box video. I hadn't noticed it before, but then again I don't recall if we were ever actually shown the video in full context before either. Well, no matter. The point is that once Jin-woo gets reasonable doubt, he's able to get the gangsters to cooperate and from there it's one leg of the conspiracy down, with several left to go.

The diligent viewer may have noticed that throughout "Remember" various characters have been collecting evidence only to have it disappear quite frustratingly at the last minute. Once Dong-ho is clered of murder, "Remember" makes a point of remininding us that this drama takes place in the twenty-first century and because of that, video evidence can't really be destroyed, just temporarily suppressed. While the corporate conspiracy has operated on these of threats well enough so far, at this point there's so much evidence floating around they're practically baiting a full-on team attack.

Poor Gyoo-man and his misplaced priorities. The guy really doesn't know how to do much except act all smug, and Jin-woo beats him the smug department easily. Provided there's enough top back it up of course, and by the end of the episode there's plenty. I think my favorite bit has to be the secret plan, the plan so good Jin-woo and In-ah couldn't share it with the rest of their law firm.

In short, "Remember" is rapidly approaching the payoff. If the corporate conspiracy has stumbled in trying to stay ahead of the (technically ongoing) rape case, it's just about completely impossible to expect them to do anything in the case of the big finale here. I have no idea how "Remember" is supposed to drag two more episodes out because really, we're done. Jin-woo doesn't even have to do any more lawyering, because now it's all in the capable hands of the prosecution.

That much is fortunate, because the production team is determined to take the whole Jin-woo memory loss storyline as far as it can. I'm hoping there's some sort of magical solution to that problem, less because I care about a happy ending and more because I thought that was a stupid story device from the beginning and all it's done is set up a few misleading dramatic cliffhangers. Yet if not for that what else is there for "Remember" to do? I guess Gyoo-man has a hostage, but the guy's not all that sympathetic.
