[HanCinema's Drama Review] "The Woman who Married Three Times" Episode 6

This episode clearly resolves the mystery burning about why, exactly, the marriage between Eun-soo and Tae-won broke up in the first place. Part of the reason why the flashbacks of this drama are so confusing is because they always seem to be about as intimate with each other regardless of whether or not they're actually married. Even in the present day Tae-won still calls her "yeobo", which is weird even when everyone is being a good sport about it.

The reason for this, unsurprisingly, is Tae-won's relatives. That much has already been implied, of course- they remain, as always, insufferable in nearly every scene they're in. But the way they treat Eun-soo, even when she's several months pregnant with the new granddaughter, is just plain abhorrent. It's inconceivable that anyone has the patience to spend much time around these people- well, the maid seems able to handle herself, but that's probably because they pay her well.

This is a difficult, effective conflict that's very believable in how the characters can't really solve it. Sul-gi is still basically angry about her mom and dad not being together. They can't exactly say "mommy left because daddy's parents treated her like garbage" because it just brings up too many other questions. From Sul-gi's perspectives these should be easily solved problems. To the adults, well, it's just not that simple.

Fortunately this episode does spend some time on the happier parts of life so this stuff doesn't get too overwhelming. Eun-soo and Sul-gi's outing is fun and sweet, and even if some of parts of it are surly, they're both clearly having plenty of fun by the end. It's a bit of a sad statement, of course, that they can't do this all the time due to all the other dramatic problems, and Eun-soo still ends up in painful flashbacks, but a happy moment is a happy moment wherever it may come from.

It's advice Hyun-soo should be taking to heart. Her scenes are still basically angry ones. Still, I have to give credit where it's due and admit that Hyun-soo is pretty cute when she's angry, so I can see why the men in her life are willing to spend time with her. At the same time she really needs to do a better job of turning it off and just being able to relax in a happy moment every once in awhile. Like when she's with those dogs. What cute little puppies. I want to see more of them.
