[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon" Episode 11

The love triangle blooms and dies rather quickly in this episode, but its demise is quite possibly one of my favorite shifts in a second lead that I've seen on Korean television. Accompanying the demise of Gook-doo's hope in starting a relationship with Bong-soon is the utter delight that is Min-hyeok courting Bong-soon. Around the dynamics of romantic relationships looms the ever present Jang-hyun, crafty kidnapper and man bereft of a moral compass.

While the first part of the drama crawled in pace in regards to the criminal activity, the second part speeds along as Jang-hyun crafts plans that elude the police and Bong-soon. Because this police force isn't the brightest, I anticipate Jang-hyun fooling them again. Bong-soon also doesn't seem too concerned about catching him herself even though she warns her friend to be careful time and time again. I'm waiting for her to come out of her state of complacency and stand by her promise to herself, her friend, and her neighborhood.

The bulk of this episode, however, is the romance. Heartbreak finds Gook-doo when Bong-soon rejects him. It is no longer he who glows before her eyes, but Min-hyeok. She becomes as smitten with him as he is with her. Much of the episode was the adorable interplay between the flirting couple. A hint of a darker future crept in when Bong-soon asked Min-hyeok if he's okay being tied to a very unusual woman. I smell noble idiocy in her future.

Mixed in with the romance are a few homophobic scenes, a highlight of the gangster leader finding the light via poop wine, and a few other silly moments geared towards humor. While funny, I find these detract rather than add to the overall texture of "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon".

It is worth noting that Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik are exceptionally effective in this episode. I can't wait to watch them together in episode 12.
