[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Triangle - Drama" Episode 18

The bad guys really need to have a meeting about the terrible quality of their plans. First an assassination attempt, and now a kidnapping? Really? All of this just to counter Dong-soo and Yeong-dal's plan? It bears repeating here- we barely even have any idea what their plan actually is. These are desperate actions taken by men afraid they're about to lose everything. It's absolutely nonsensical for the story to go this direction when hardly anything has even happened yet.

But even setting aside the wisdom of the kidnapping plan, I'm not sure how the bad guys even knew that Jeong-hee was Yeong-dal's sweetie in the first place. I thought the entire reason she was mad at him lately was because Yeong-dal was ignoring her for reasons he wouldn't explain. That's the opposite of the set-up necessary for this kind of damsel in distress plot to make any sense. The very fact that Yeong-dal could trick the kidnappers into thinking he didn't care begs the question of why they even thought it was a good idea in the first place.

And that's not even getting into the problematic nature of the damsel in distress plot in the first place. I thought Jeong-hee was a better defined character than to get dragged into the storyline through such an arbitrary cliched plot device. Apparently not. Jeong-hee's lot in life is apparently defined almost completely by her relationship to men. She's not even suspicious that Yang-ha rescued her- Jeong-hee's just taking everything at face value now apparently.

So that's another arbitrary, pointless storyline that's out of the way. Here's what we've established. Bok-tae doesn't actually have any idea what he's doing. Yeong-dal and Jeong-hee are really totally over for now. Yang-ha and Jeong-hee...might get together? Who knows. Apparently a year of her undivided attention can't compare with a suspicious rescue. Oh, and we'd better not forget Sin-hye's revelation.

Anybody else think that was way, way too easy by the way? Dong-soo's the one who's been agonizing over this stuff for what, the past few decades? And he never once thought to do the investigative work necessary to find out what happened to his baby brother? Well, it's not like he's a detective. Oh wait, yes he is. Well I can't say I'm surprised at this point. It's clear that the drama doesn't have any good ideas at this point, so might as well just toss everything out there at once.
