[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Twenty Again" Episode 7

No-ra has finally grown a spine. She may not know exactly what she wants out of life, but she knows she wants to live it to its fullest and won't let Woo-cheol hinder her any further. Hyeon-seok, on the other hand, is a different story. When he and No-ra are around each other they revert to teenagerhood and fight like children with crushes – much like her Son Min-soo.

We're almost to the halfway point and there should be some sort of shift in plot coming our way next episode. The buildup to that includes Min-soo's realization that his mom isn't the useless, uncaring pushover his father makes her out to be. No-ra is on her son's side and now Min-soo knows it. It's sad how long it has taken for him to see his mother for who she is and to see how much she genuinely loves him. But, he has realized that she is on his side. Min-soo is no longer as insipid a character as he was earlier. The learning curve adds some depth to him. My hope for him is that he starts to think independently of his father's wishes, like his mother, and considers what he wants his present and future to be.

Woo-cheol has a realization about No-ra as well, but his isn't quite as graceful as his son's. While Min-soo is growing up, Woo-cheol is reverting to childhood. Hyeon-seok's interest in No-ra inspires Woo-cheol's jealousy and therefore sudden interest in No-ra that had not existed for the past twenty years. This kind of interest isn't genuine and I find it petty. If done correctly, it would work well.. He does notice the things she has done around the house that he's taken for granted. But done incorrectly it could just end up as plot filler rather than something through which Woo-cheol could learn a thing or two. Namely, jealousy for jealousy's sake so that Hyeon-seok has some "competition" for his affections. In any case, No-ra sees right through Woo-cheol's immaturity and stands her ground against him.

Hyeon-soo and No-ra together have reverted to bickering teenagers. It is begun by Hyeon-soo who doesn't know how to deal with his affections for No-ra and his worry over her unhealthy relationship with her husband. He's a young boy pulling pigtails inside. What makes him different than Woo-cheol is that he knows better – he just chooses not to behave as he should. Woo-cheol is currently woefully ignorant.

Outside of the main trio, No-ra's friends are starting to ground themselves in her life, supporting her more fully than her husband. They see her as a person who just happens to be older than them rather than a strange being for doing something out of the ordinary like attending college twenty years later than everyone else. To each her own pace, says "Twenty Again", and I can't help but agree.
