[HanCinema's Feature] HanCinema's Top 5 Actresses for December 2022

Fifth place for the tracking period of November 18th to December 15th is Ji So-yeon. While Ji So-yeon is an actress, she hasn't appeared in any scripted screen projects since "Chief of Staff" in 2019.

So why the interest? Well, because she's quite pregnant, and an article HanCinema has published on her Guam trip in November has been quite popular. As of this writing, she still hasn't given birth, her last Instagram post on December 14th still showing her as heavily pregnant.

Fourth place goes to Han So-hee, who has been active as an actress, even if her only recent articles have also been Instagram posts. Han So-hee has been making the most of her career boost since "The World of the Married" propelled her to unexpected stardom. "Nevertheless" was a moody romance, "My Name" a hardcore gangster thriller, and "Soundtrack #1" a more subdued romance. "Gyeongsang Creature" will be her next project- an ambitious, multi-season effort from Netflix.

Third place goes to Go Youn-jung, a rising star who may well be the next Han So-hee. Following a strong performance in a secondary role for "Alchemy of Souls" earlier this year, Go Youn-jung plays a character of increased prominence in the follow-up series, "Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow" which started on December 10th. Go Youn-jung is likely to at least maintain her popularity for the rest of the month- but she isn't credited as a lead for her next project, "Moving" on Disney+ next year.

Second place goes to Bae Suzy, who's been a big star for awhile now. The big recent news story for her has been the official confirmation of "Doona!" which she's currently filming for Netflix. Bae Suzy herself has been posting pictures from filming locations for quite some time though. With a seven month filming schedule for just eight episodes, "Doona!" appears to be aiming for legitimacy in terms of changing seasons. For Bae Suzy fans, though, the project will be a return to the romantic form of "Start Up" from 2020 following "Anna" earlier this year, a mystery thriller that played against type for her.

The number one actress for this month, though, is appropriately enough one who had a big role over the last month. Kang Hae-rim plays the role of an app developer in "Somebody" on Netflix who learns that her creation is being used for the sake of murder. That HanCinema visitors are curious about her isn't a big surprise. Kang Hae-rim pretty much came out of nowhere, with no previous major acting credits, and two out of three of them being webdrama roles as characters also named Hae-lim. But as was noted in this guest post by Aisha Adnan, Kang Hae-rim really sets the tone for "Somebody" in a way that really justifies ongoing curiousity about who this actress is- and where we'll see her next.
