[HanCinema's Image Gallery] Jeon Kyu-hwan's "Mozart Town"

Before Jeon Kyu-hwan braved the director's chair he was but a humble talent manager behind the scenes. It was only when this crafty storyteller found funding for his stunning debut "Mozart Town" that Korean cinema realised they had a promising new auteur breaking out through the backdoor. The film's 90 minutes are raw and grinding, but skilfully guided by a soft and subtle poetry that is as captivating as it is cruel. Already Jeon has followed up this fantastic first feature with five others (with another soon to arrive), but it was his efforts here in "Mozart Town" (the first of three "Town" films he's made) that cinephiles were pleasantly introduced to Jeon's eclectic style and stance.
