[HanCinema's News] "Escape From Mogadishu" Passes the Million Viewer Mark

According to figures released by the Korean Film Council on August 4th, "Escape from Mogadishu" has achieved 1,035,305 admissions at the South Korean Box Office. Over seven days, it has achieved a million admissions- the fastest any South Korean movie has achieved that many admissions at the South Korean box office this year. The film's production company released eight new character posters to commemorate the event.

"Mogadishu" now faces ambiguous prospects as it attempts to hit the two million viewer mark. Though it easily defeated all foreign movies this past weekend at the box office, until now foreign films have dominated their domestic counterparts this year, with the recently released Black Widow slowly making its way to the three million viewer mark. "Escape from Mogadishu" has no serious competition in the following weekend, with "Sinkhole" being the next major release on August 11th.

"Escape from Mogadishu" has been benefiting from positive word of mouth. Its weekend takings were relatively modest, with only 788,300 admissions after five days. But it did quite well on Monday and Tuesday, with admissions in the 120,000 viewer range being similar to opening Wednesday admissions, and significantly higher than those on Thursday and Friday. "Escape from Mogadishu" stars Kim Yun-seok and Huh Joon-ho as opposing Korean ambassadors in war-torn 1991 Somalia.
