[HanCinema's News] Joo Won Talks About "Carter"

On August 4th, actor Joo Won did an interview with the 2 PM Escape Call-To Show on SBS Radio. He was there to promote the film "Carter" which came out on Netflix this past August 5th, and in which he appears as the title character. Joo Won commented that it had been quite some time since he had done promotional work like this, with the last time predating his time doing mandatory military service. He claimed to find the work relaxing, because it wasn't much different than before.

When asked by the hosts whether this was just the vibe of feeling handsome, Joo Won, confessed that this was mostly just the effect of the makeup. Joo Won claimed that he was also wearing a fair amount of makeup on the day of the interview as well for this reason, and that it helped to improve his confidence. The hosts were not deterred by this claim, insisting that if they looked like him they'd just admire themselves in the mirror all the time.

Aside from makeup, Joo Won also talked about having to put on weight for his role on "Carter" to the tune of seven kilograms, principally in muscle. Joo Won said the role also required a change in hairstyle, which is why he's wearing it so short. Joo Won claimed that he also had to shave a specific part of his head every day to hide traces of a surgery. Joo Won said that for this reason, he had to wear a hat and avoid social media for six months while filming of "Carter" was ongoing.

Prior to filming, Joo Won had to practice the action scenes for three months before he could attempt to do the stunts on set. Joo Won stated that approximately ninety minutes of the one hundred and thirty three minute movie consists of action scenes, hence the intense preparation. Despite the danger of the stunts, Joo Won claimed to have absolute faith in the action team because they rehearsed every scene at least ten times to insure there would be no danger.

Joo Won noted that beyond typical action scenes there was also a sauna scene, a plane scene, a helicopter scene, a skydiving scene, and a train scene. Joo Won described the sauna scene as the most memorable due to the fact that a hundred naked people had to be choreographed by the action team in order to make it work. Joo Won also noted that the director Jung Byung-gil insisted on filming the skydiving scene in real time, necessitating ten attempts over a single day.
