[HanCinema's News] Kim Hee-jae-I Talks About "From Now On, Showtime!"

Kim Hee-jae-I is a modern day legend in the field of trot music. The twenty-six year old singer came to prominence on the Mr. Trot musical competition variety show, and earned his first screen credit as part of the entourage in "Mr. Trot: The Movie" which came out in 2020. But now Kim Hee-jae-I looks to take his career in a new direction, appearing in a supporting role in the upcoming weekend drama "From Now On, Showtime!" on MBC. In a recent interview, Kim Hee-jae-I discussed the experience.

Kim Hee-jae-I admitted that the experience was a strange one. In music, he typically expresses himself via tone. Obviously, this is not possible in acting. Consequently, Kim Hee-jae-I said that he needed to repeat his lines five or six times as much as his more experienced co-stars in order to get across the right sentiment. Kim Hee-jae-I credited the staff of "From Now On, Showtime!" with being able to help him figure out how to strike the right balance with his delivery.

"From Now On, Showtime!" focuses on a magician played by Park Hae-jin and a patrolwoman played by Jin Ki-joo who work together to solve crimes with the help of ghosts. Kim Hee-jae-I is not one of the ghosts, but rather plays the partner of Jin Ki-joo's character, a new recruit by the name of Yong-ryeol who is overflowing with sentiments of justice. Kim Hee-jae-I mentioned being somewhat bewildered by the sheer variety of shots required for any given scene.

Much of this also had little to do with Kim Hee-jae-I, who as a supporting actor, was not typically in focus. Kim Hee-jae-I had to work hard to act in such a way as to best emphasize his co-stars, particularly Park Hae-jin, who is more typically in focus. With all the multiple shots, Kim Hee-jae-I also had to make sure to use the exact same gestures and hold the exact same positions every time. Kim Hee-jae-I stated that his thank you gesturing in particular had to be very practiced and consistent.

Kim Hee-jae-I also mentioned how his family is supportive of his attempted shift in careers, noting that his mother is a big fan of television dramas. Kim Hee-jae-I also made reference to a nine-year-old sibling who loves "Young Lady and Gentleman" and watched every episode. "From Now On, Showtime!" will begin airing on MBC domestically and Rakuten Viki worldwide this coming April 23rd.
