On January 13th "My Dearest" confirmed that Namkoong Min and Ahn Eun-jin had been cast for the lead roles. Namkoong Min will take on the role of Lee Jeong-hyeon, who mysteriously shows up in a social environment one day during a time of war, with natural joking charm yet hiding some sort of dark secret. Ahn Eun-jin will play Yoo Gil-chae, the daughter of a noble house. Ahn Eun-jin is described as self-centered due to the attention she receives from men, but that she changes throughout the war to become a more mature figure.

"My Dearest" is being written by Hwang Jin-yeong of "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" from 2017 and director Kim Sung-yong of "The Veil" from 2021. Kim Sung-yong's last project also starred Namkoong Min in the leading role, though Namkoong Min did "One Dollar Lawyer" in the intervening period. Ahn Eun-jin's last television drama was "The One and Only" from 2021. "My Dearest" is expected to begin airing on South Korean television in the second half of this year.
