[HanCinema's News] New Stills Released for "The 8th Night"

Netflix has released new character-centric still shots for the upcoming film "The 8th Night" which will premiere on the streaming platform. The pictures paint a mundane portrait of a supernatural presence involving a bridge to another world and the people trying to prevent its awakening. The distinct tension in the five shots hits at a thriller that will be principally grounded in realism rather than its fantastic concept.

Yet the film also has spiritual elements. Lee Sung-min has claimed to have discoursed long with director Kim Tae-hyung-II about the karmic qualities of his character Jin-soo, whose destiny is driving him to prevent the ordained disaster. Park Hae-joon likewise describes his detective character as passionate and stubborn, yet strived to make sure he gave off brotherly vibes in relation to other characters. Kim You-jung had her driving source be an unnerving lack of emotion for her character's secret role.

While "The 8th Night" was confirmed on relatively short notice, there is definite enthusiasm for the project among the cast and crew as Netflix works to properly market the movie ahead of its July 2nd release. Worldwide fans of Korean film too are taking notice. While not a major title, success for "The 8th Night" could well encourage Netflix to acquire distribution rights for still more projects that may not otherwise have a chance of being widely distributed internationally.
