In the wake of Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo's divorce announcement Park Bo-gum and "Encounter" have been rumored as possible causes. "Encounter" was Song Hye-kyo's first drama following her marriage to Song Joong-ki, and Park Bo-gum himself has been known as an old colleague to Song Joong-ki.

The popularity has also extended to "Encounter"'s online petitions, as more people are watching the drama than would be expected for one of its relative age. Howevever, this may also just be a consequence of Song Hye-kyo's name being in the news again so prominently. "Encounter" was an extremely popular romantic melodrama when it was still on-air, and finished with ratings higher than ten percent.
Park Bo-gum rose to stardom for his work in "Reply 1988" and "Love in the Moonlight", with "Encounter" being his first project since 2016. Park Bo-gum and Song Hye-kyo were both praised for excellent chemistry in the drama despite their twelve year age gap.
