On May 3rd, the Netflix original series "The Sound of Magic" held an online press conference in anticipation of the drama's May 6th release. Director Kim Seong-yoon, as well as lead actors Ji Chang-wook, Choi Sung-eun, and Hwang In-youp were all in attendance. The story deals with a girl, played by Choi Sung-eun, who has lost her ability to dream, and a boy, played by Hwang In-youp, whose dreams have become too strong, and their encounter with a magician played by Ji Chang-wook.

The story is based on the webtoon of the same title. "The Sound of Magic is also the first project from director Kim Seong-yoon since "Itaewon Class" in 2020. It's also his third collaboration with screenwriter Kim Min-jeong-II since "Itaewon Class" as well as "Who Are You - School 2015" from some years prior. At the press conference, Kim Seong-yoon claimed to have deliberated with Kim Min-jeong-II over an adaptation for some seven or eight years.

Kim Seong-yoon stated that another part of his inspiration for the program was observing how children in recent years seem to be less capable of vocalizing their dreams. This led to the musical emphasis of "The Sound of Magic" which allowed for a new way to express complex emotions. This explains the curious English title to the drama, which in the original Korean reads more like a magical incantation with no clear reference to music.

Ji Chang-wook also makes his return with "The Sound of Magic" with his most recent previous appearance being as the unpromoted villain in "HARD HIT" who is only heard over the phone until the film's final act. Ji Chang-wook claimed to be inspired by the script because the younger characters in the show reminded him of himself at a younger age. Ji Chang-wook stated that he didn't want to make "The Sound of Magic" a story for everyone, but for children who needed to be inspired.

Ji Chang-wook also mentioned thinking at his meeting with the director that his entire concept of expressing so much important information through music was unclear. Somewhat conversely, Ji Chang-wook concluded that this was an unusual enough vision that Kim Seong-yoon must have had a great deal of confidence in it to bring the subject up at all. "The Sound of Magic" will have all six episodes available in full on Netflix starting on May 6th.
