[HanCinema's News] "Rainbow Playground" Holds Press Conference

Ahead of its October 9th release date "Rainbow Playground held a press conference on September 25th. Still images released alongside the event have given a clearer idea as to the movie's tone. The story centers around Oh Ji-ho's character as he gets entangled in episodic encounters with the denizens of a peculiar neighborhood.

Oh Ji-ho described his lead time for filming "Rainbow Playground" to be quite short, as he had just gotten finished filming the variety television show 'Real Men'. He described the movie as funny and emotional, going into how people in their twenties and thirties relate to society in the modern era.

Director Lee Sang-hoon-III was initially concerned that Oh Ji-ho was too handsome for the role, but expressed thanks to the lead actor for letting himself be made less pretty. Lee Sang-hoon-III also talked about the movie's location shooting in Wonju, and how local passerbys were a frequent source of inspiration for trying to maintain the movie's down to earth tone.

Director Lee Sang-hoon-III also described Oh Ji-ho as being a genius. When the time came for work to start with action choreography Oh Ji-ho took the initiative to contact the action choreographer he worked with in "The Slave Hunters". The choreographer stated that Oh Ji-ho was brilliant with action scenes and having seen Oh Ji-ho work like that, director Lee Sang-hoon-III said that he wanted to do a no dialog movie with Oh Ji-ho one day.

The actual movie's focus is less on Oh Ji-ho as it is on the people he runs across. Multicultural families, school violence, and cat parenting are all local societal themes that the movie touches on. More than anything else director Lee Sang-hoon-III described "Rainbow Playground" as being a movie about the need for people to ask for and receive help, and how too often, they receive excuses instead.
