[HanCinema's News] "Recalled" Continues to Post Strong Early Reservations

According to figures released by the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) "Recalled" is continuing to post strong early reservations. The number has dipped down to the 30% range, compared to the 40% range from yesterday. Additionally, "Recalled" is now facing stronger competition from the Demon Slayer anime film which has been a recurring fixture at the South Korean box office over the last three months. The movie has been assisted by the popularity of the TV show's availability on Netflix.

As far as "Recalled" goes questions yet remain over how to make sense of the movie's apparent early success despite the controversy surrounding leading actress Seo Yea-ji. Even now, persons with an interest in the entertainment industry have been unearthing old interviews of the actress. In one piece on Arirang TV in 2016, she mentions being bullied in school. In a more recent film-related program, Seo Yea-ji describes being drawn to horror because she was an outcast.

These details are not necessarily inconsistent with previous allegations of bullying by the actress. Many bullies often feel lonely in turn, with the cause and effect of their behavior being difficult to grasp. Seo Yea-ji herself has so far refused to address most of the charges against her, only assenting to the initial story of her having a secret relationship with Kim Jung-hyun and flatly denying the bullying allegations. "Recalled" is set to be released on April 21st.
