[HanCinema's News] Several New Films to Release Over the Next Week

While the latest animated film from Disney looks sure to dominate the South Korean box office in the near future, the domestic South Korean release calendar is full of a wide variety of titles aimed at a more adult audience. The movies cover a wide variety of genres and all are likely looking to recoup their expenses primarily in the secondary distribution market. "How to Live in This World" has the most eccentric take, being an adult comedy centered around infidelity. It releases on December 4th.

In the nearer term "Bring Me Home" and "Nailed" were both released on November 27th. "Bring Me Home" is a big return project for famed actress Lee Young-ae as she hunts down clues explaining the possible disappearance of her son. "Nailed" is another black comedy, this one revolving around a struggling auto repair shop and the sinister plan the husband and wife owners develop to drive up new business.

Fluffier material will appear in the form of "A Little Princess" and "My Bossy Girl". "A Little Princess" will be the last release from CGV Art House. It stars Na Moon-hee of "I Can Speak" fame in the lead role as an irritable immature grandmother. "My Bossy Girl" is a college romance with an English title reminiscent of "My Sassy Girl", although domestically this connection is not present and the film is being promoted as a vehicle for lead actors Lee Elijah and Ji Il-joo.

Far more films than this are being released over the weekend, however, the others are more catered toward high-brow audiences, with prospects for wider distribution being far more limited. These two weekends are just yet another example of the increase in production of South Korean movies for domestic consumption, thanks to the increased ease of making money thanks to the improved secondary distribution markets.
