[HanCinema's News] "Sweet Home" Gives a Boost to Its Younger Stars

The new Netflix drama "Sweet Home" has proven to be a hit both at home and abroad. But the supernaturally themed survival drama's influence will likely last far beyond the popularity of the drama itself. "Sweet Home" is noteworthy for having given a platform to a wide variety of young stars. Many would have struggled for a visible role in a more traditional drama, but the structure of "Sweet Home" has allowed all of them a moment to shine as a member of the greater ensemble.

Lee Do-hyun has, strictly speaking, already appeared as the lead in a mainline drama. He was the young version of the lead character in "18 Again" which meant he had the bulk of the screentime. Though praised for his performance, Lee Do-hyun's role by design wasn't naturalistic as he was playing a man twice his physical age. But "Sweet Home" allowed for an opportuntiy for Lee Do-hyun to show interplay and chemistry with other young performers his own age.

One such performer is Go Min-si, who plays his younger sister, and with whom Lee Do-hyun has excellent chemistry. The two were confirmed for leading roles in next year's "Youth of May" shortly after appearing together in "Sweet Home" at exactly the time fans were wondering if they might be seen together again. There have even been romantic rumors regarding the two, and "Youth of May" is appropriately enough also a romance. Ironically, Go Min-si will explicitly play the older character of the pair in that production.

In reality the two are the same age. Go Youn-jung, by contrast, is a year younger at twenty-four. She is also a more sudden arrival than either of her peers, with her only prior screen credits being in "He Is Psychometric" and "The School Nurse Files". Nevertheless, despite a lack of an upcoming project, Go Youn-jung has attracted strong interest for modeling due to the noteworthy gravitas behind her character's sad backstory tempered by her aggression with necessary via baseball bat.

These are only some of the supporting performers in "Sweet Home" who have become prominent in part thanks to the drama. While "Sweet Home" has been praised largely for being a cohesive team effort, many individuals are nonetheless reaping dividends from their participation. The drama could easily prove a retrospective look at the careers of future stars in days to come.
