[HanCinema's News] "The Box" Breaks 70,000 Viewer Mark

Figures from the Korean Film Council confirmed that the musical road trip movie "The Box" broke seventy thousand viewers over the weekend. The figure is modest in the context of the overall box office South Korean film market, with "The Box" outperformed fourfold by a major Hollywood release over the weekend. Nevertheless, seventy thousand viewers is quite a lot for a relatively low budget film in the current COVID-19 depressed South Korean film market.

The fandom of Chanyeol from EXO has largely been credited with the movie's strong performance. The soundtrack for "The Box" has also been doing fairly well on iTunes, with international releases of "The Box" being negotiated worldwide for other markets. The film has received attention for packing a large number of cover songs from a very diverse set of genres into a fairly short overall runtime. "The Box" was released in South Korea on March 24th.
