[HanCinema's News] "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" Tops Early Reservations

According to figures released by the Korean Film Council, "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" is leading all other films in terms of early reservations at the South Korean box office. The benchmark was met on January 17th, nine days before the film's wide release in South Korean theaters. "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" alongside "Kingmaker" are the only two major releases for January 26th, and are expected to dominate film sales for the Lunar New Year holiday.

"The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" is the sequel to the 2014 hit film "Pirates" which starred Kim Nam-gil and Son Ye-jin in the leading roles. Neither actor has returned for the new film, which features Kang Ha-neul and Han Hyo-joo as the leads. Both movies deal with Joseon-era cutthroats who are attempting to recover a royal seal. In the first movie the seal was swallowed by a whale. It is as of yet unclear where the seal is in the second movie, or if the two movies are in the same continuity.
