[HanCinema's News] "V.I.P" Enters Rotation on OCN

At 12:30 A.M. today, "V.I.P" screened on the OCN cable television channel for the first time in the late night slot. The film, directed by Park Hoo-jung of "The New World" fame, stars Lee Jong-suk as a serial killer and other older stars as security personnel tasked with either protecting or apprehending him.

"V.I.P" has suffered a nasty critical history. While hopes for the movie were quite high, upon release it was widely panned and could only muster total admissions of 1,373,316. Currently Naver user ratings place the movie at 6.87 while Daum user ratings have it at 6.0. Many critics attacked it for being overly violent and misogynistic. As for me, I just thought the story was incredibly stupid.

The movie may have more success on cable, but its prospects are dubious since, unlike "Golden Slumber", many of the scenes in "V.I.P" are probably too violent to be shown during daylight hours when children are likely to be watching. Time will tell whether the cable market is kinder to the film than the box office was.
