[HanCinema's News] Yoon Ji-oh Claims She Mistook Official Police Contact for Phishing Scam

On October 31st Yoon Ji-oh took to Instagram to defend herself from charges that she had engaged in fraud and was avoiding contact with South Korean police. Her post includes a message sent to her from police which she interpreted to be a phishing scam, as she could not verify the information wherein.

Attached to the post is a screen capture of the Kakao Conversation, with personal information about the individual officer redacted. The message is fairly perfunctory in nature. After identifying as an officer by name, the writer of the message requests information related to a case, while not offering any specific information about the case under discussion. The officer also requests a voice chat, and gives an official police e-mail address.

While the evidence posted by Yoon Ji-oh appears to express a concilatory attitude toward the police, the rest of the message is hostile in tone. Yoon Ji-oh attacks the police for failing to properly consider the safety of their witnesses and not doing investigations properly. She then accuses them of trying to personally frame her for crimes of which she is innocent.

Yoon Ji-oh justifies her mistrust on the grounds of her living for ten years in fear as a witness to the circumstances surrounding the death of Jang Ja-yeon. Yoon Ji-oh says she had always been open and forthright in her dealings, and accuses the people of trying to cover something up. All of this is in response to a recently issued warrant for her arrest and possible extradition from Canada in response to allegations that Yoon Ji-oh committed fraud with respect to collaborators and donations to her cause.
