[HanCinema's News] Zombies to Be Sandwiched by Gangsters at the South Korean Box Office

While it has yet to have an official release date, it seems likely given the expected July release date of "Peninsula" following "#ALIVE" on June 24th that gangster film "Deliver Us From Evil" will appear between the two zombie flicks, if only to better emphasize variety. This will make for a curious sandwich at the July box office this year, though it remains unknown whether it will taste good enough to stave off fears engendered by COVID-19.

While not strictly speaking a gangster movie, much of the marketing for "Deliver Us From Evil" nonetheless gives that impression. The movie stars Lee Jung-jae and Hwang Jung-min as the hunter and the hunted in the wake of a troublesome final mission. This will be the first meeting of the two actors since the widely beloved "The New World" seven years back, and their bromantic chemistry on its own is expected to be a major selling point.

This will also prove quite the contrast to "#ALIVE", which is premised in large part around the notion of its lead characters played by Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye as different kinds of loners attempting to survive in their apartment home that's been taken over by zombies. The combative tone of "Deliver Us From Evil" is expected to be markedly different from "#ALIVE", and perhaps an argument that it too is worth seeing in a movie theater for very different reasons.
