Hangeul Week to be Full of Events

The Culture Ministry has planned a wide variety of events for the 565-year anniversary of the invention of the Korean alphabet, Hangeul.

It will designate the period from October 3rd to the 9th as "Hangeul Week", with the 9th serving as Hangeul Day.

During that week, an organization researching the Korean language will hold an exhibition under the theme of global writing systems and Hangeul and illustrate the development of the Korean language and various writing systems from around the world.

In addition, the Korean research center at the Korean Broadcasting System will showcase singing and dancing under the theme of Hangeul at the Sejong Center from next Thursday to Saturday.

An organization to commemorate King Sejong the Great, who spearheaded the invention of the Hangeul, will hold contests for foreigners in writing Hangeul next Thursday.

Meanwhile, the National Folk Museum of Korea will hold a contest in speaking Korean for foreigners on October 11th.
