Hawaii fest highlights Korean cinema

The Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) not only includes a kimchi flavoured western, but a rich variety of Korean tastes. HIFF selected Kim Yoo-jin's "The Divine Weapon" as its opening film and Kim Jee-woon's "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" received the honour to close the festival.

HIFF also selected the Korean films "Sunny" (Lee Joon-ik), "The Chaser" (Na Hong-jin), "Crossing" (Kim Tae-gyoon), and "Dachiwama Le"e (Ryoo Seung-wan). Bong Joon-ho will also be present with his short film "Shaking Tokyo", part of the Japanese omnibus "Tokyo!".

Jung Woo-sung will receive the Achievement in acting award at HIFF, according to the festival and JEONG's agency Sidus HQ. JUNG will be present at the festival to receive the award and to meet with audiences. JEONG collected domestic awards, but the HIFF award will be his first international recognition. He will join Samuel Jackson and Ken Watanabe, among others, who previously won the award.

JEONG succeeds the Korean HIFF award winners _Kwak_Gyeong-taek and Bong Joon-ho. KWAK won last year's Best director and Audience award for "a Love". BONG's "The Host" won 2006's Audience award.

Honolulu hosts the film festival from October 9 to 19.
