[Hot Takes from the Noonas] Park Bo-gum, Song Joong-ki top power list of Korean celebrities

2017/03/01 | 2865 views | Permalink

Drama stars, Park Bo-gum and Song Joong-ki took the number 1 and 2 spots on the Forbes 2017 Power Celebrity Rankings for Korea.

Both actors had a stellar year in 2017, so it's no surprise to see them at the top of the list. Park Bo-gum conquered the hearts of fans in two hit dramas, "Answer Me 1988" and "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds", while Song Joong-ki had possibly the greatest post-army comeback ever with monster hit, "Descendants of the Sun". Rounding out the top five were girl group Twice at number 3, boy band EXO at number 4, and baseball player Oh Seung-hwan at number 5. Park Bo-gum is the first actor to hit number 1 since Forbes started putting out the list in 2010, testament both to his popularity and the steady rise in profile of Korean dramas.

The ranking is based on professional achievements, influence, popularity and earnings from the past year. Personally, I would have guessed that Gong Yoo would have cracked the top five after "Goblin", but maybe that show came too late in the year to affect the rankings. I guess he'll just have to settle for being number 1 in my personal power celebrity ranking.

Love,
