Indie Horror 'The Butcher' Gets North American Release

2009/05/15 | 902 views | Permalink | Source

Director KIM Jin-won-I's debut feature "The Butcher", a low-budget gore-fest made for US $15,000, received notice after having its world premiere in the Forbidden Zone section of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) in 2007. Its North American distribution rights were recently picked up by Distant Horizon, with a plan to release the film in the US this July.

"The Butcher", an intense tale told in bold, gore drenched visuals, revolves around a married couple who, unable to meet the demands of a loan shark, are afflicted by a team of snuff film producers who proceed to torture them in various stomach-churning and unpleasant ways.

After its premiere at PiFan the film went on to screen at various festivals including the Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia and the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF). Upstart Korean sales and production company INew Entertainment was able to complete the deal with Distant Horizon under the generous auspices of NYAFF.
