Int'l Student Animation Fest Held

PUCHON (Yonhap) _ An international student animation film festival opened here with the screening of four short movies from South Korea, Slovakia, France and the Netherlands, the event's organizers said Friday.

The Puchon International Student Animation Festival will last until Tuesday in Puchon, west of Seoul, with 50 animation films from 15 countries competing, the organizers said.

Under the theme of "Dream, Experiment and Jump", the five-day event is aimed at offering opportunities and encouragement to future animation filmmakers, according the event's Web site.

About 700 visitors, including Gyeonggi provincial governor Sohn Hak-gyu, attended the gala screening.

Various academic conference and public lectures on animation films are planned for the sidelines of the festival.
