Japanese cities are trying to boost their economies by attracting South Korean movie and drama companies to film in their regions.

The Sankei Shimbun on Monday said some 2,300 fans last month flocked to a news conference in Miyazaki by South Korean actor Ryu Si-won.

A Miyazaki tourism official said filming of a South Korean drama there will attract South Korean tourists and Japanese residents to the city's scenic beauty.

Another Japanese tourism official said this year's focus is to bring South Korean film crews to Japan, citing Osaka Mayor Fusae Ota's June visit to Seoul to promote tourism in her city.

The Sapporo Film Commission will also hold this month a promotional tour to ten major film agencies in Seoul.
