Kyodo News reported on Won's military service in its breaking news, while Mainichi Newspaper, Sports Nippon, Nikkan Sports and Daily Sports wrote that "one of the big hallyu stars has joined the military".

"Won has joined the military, where he will serve for two years. More than 400 Asian fans and journalists came to encourage him in front of the boot camp, wishing him well and promising to wait for him", wrote Mainichi Newspaper.

Won reportedly replied to his fans by saying, "I will return after gaining valuable experience".
