Japanese media covers Won Bin's joining of military

Japanese news agencies, including Kyodo News, extensively reported Nov. 29 on the beginning of military service of actor Won Bin, who joined the 102nd Reserves in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.

Kyodo News reported on Won's military service in its breaking news, while Mainichi Newspaper, Sports Nippon, Nikkan Sports and Daily Sports wrote that "one of the big hallyu stars has joined the military".

"Won has joined the military, where he will serve for two years. More than 400 Asian fans and journalists came to encourage him in front of the boot camp, wishing him well and promising to wait for him", wrote Mainichi Newspaper.

Won reportedly replied to his fans by saying, "I will return after gaining valuable experience".

Kyodo News also wrote that Won is a top actor who starred in the movie "Taegukgi", which drew a record number of viewers in Korea, as well as the popular TV drama "Autumn in my Heart". It added that Won will likely continue to appear in public often as he will serve in the Defense Media Agency, which is in charge of military public relations.
