Japanese pianist and composer Hisaishi Joe to visit Korea

Japanese pianist and composer Hisaishi Joe will hold a concert at the Seongnam Arts Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on November, accompanied by the Korean Symphony Orchestra.

Hisaishi has composed lyrical, mysterious and magnificent scores for films such as Kitano Takeshi's "Hana-bi" and Miyazaki Hayao's animations "Mononoke Hime", "My Neighbor Totoro", "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle".

He is also the composer of the background music of the Korean mega-hit movie "Welcome to Dongmakgol".

Having studied composition, Hisaishi has composed music for commercials and dramas as well as movies, and also works as a pianist and producer.

He is recognized as an unrivalled film composer in Japan as a four-times Japanese Academy Award winner--receiving the awards for three straight years starting from 1992 and again in 1999 with the music for Hana-bi.

This marks his second concert in Korea. He previously held a concert at the Sejong Center for Performing Arts in 2001. Playing the piano and conducting the orchestra himself, Hisaishi will present his masterpieces including the soundtrack of "Welcome to Dongmakgol"."
