Jinju to hold Korea Drama Festival

2005/09/29 | Permalink | Source

The City of Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province will hold the "Korea Drama Festival 2005", modeled after international drama and video culture festivals.

The festival will take place Oct. 7 and serve as a springboard for the "Korea Drama Festival & Awards" to be launched next year. The festival will also include international seminars on Korean TV dramas that have contributed to the popularity of Korean pop culture abroad as well as concerts featuring original soundtracks from popular TV series.

The event is being organized by the South Gyeongsang provincial government and Jinju City and hosted by the Korean Broadcasting Institute and the Jinju Culture & Arts Center. An official with the Korean Broadcasting Institute said the festival is aimed at promoting the city of Jinju as an international city, much like the Pusan International Film Festival earned fame for the city of Busan.

The first part of the festival, featuring a seminar on successful strategies to hold the Korea Drama Festival, will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Chokseoknu Fortress in Jinju. Chung Ang University professor Hwang Dong-ryul will introduce in his presentation academic and practical approaches to promoting the local video culture industry.

The second part, featuring the inauguration ceremony of the festival's organizing committee, will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the National Jinju Museum. The ceremony will be attended by South Gyeognsang Province Governor Kim Tae-ho, who also heads the organizing committee, and many other dignitaries including Culture Minister Chung Dong-hae, 15 parliamentary lawmakers, and Cultural Heritage Administration chief Yoo Hong-jun.

Finally, the third part of the festival will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Jinju Fortress. It will present audiences with a rare opportunity to hear original soundtracks from popular hallyu TV dramas. The performers will include Kim Jong-kook, TVXQ, Shim Su-bong and Kim Min-jong, among others.
