jKorea Celebrates Dokdo Day

Today is Dokdo Day here in Korea, a day created to celebrate the group of islets in the East Sea.
Various events are scheduled throughout the nation to commemorate the day, which the Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations first pronounced as Dokdo Day back in 2010.
The day has not yet been designated as a national day, and private organizations dedicated to the protection of the islets are still filing petitions to the National Assembly for the designation.
Since the early 2000s, various civic groups have filed petitions to the government to formally designate October 25th as Dokdo Day,. because this was the date in 1900 that the Korean Empire claimed Dokdo as Korean territory through an imperial order.
