"Joseon Exorcist" which has been criticized for its distortion of history amid the controversy over the Northeast Project, has been cancelled. The SBS News Agency announced on the 26th that it has permanently cancelled its contract to purchase broadcasting rights for "Joseon Exorcist" in deep recognition due to the gravity of the situation.

"Most of the broadcasting rights of this drama were already paid for, and the production company has already finished filming 80 percent. We want to let you know that we decided to cancel the broadcast with a heavy responsibility as a broadcast network", an official said.

The official website contains posts introducing the story and the characters in the drama. However, it can no longer be found.

In addition, actors in "Joseon Exorcist" are also trying to erase their tracks. Kim Dong-jun deleted all his posts related to "Joseon Exorcist" and Lee Yu-bi also erased her promotions for the drama. Jung Hye-sung also took down selfies and official photos related to "Joseon Exorcist".

Earlier, "Joseon Exorcist" was embroiled in controversy over its distortion of history with its use of Chinese props, setting, and food, and how it degraded King Taejong and King Sejong's characters at the time of its first broadcast. As a result, companies that were in charge of production held off their support and advertisements started to pull out.

Eventually, the production team stopped the VOD and reruns of the released episodes, and announced that it would begin to reorganize it through a week-long cancellation, and eventually took steps to cancel the drama.

It has been revealed that SBS is currently discussing a program to fill the vacancy of "Joseon Exorcist". As it was planned for 16 episodes, the sudden cancellation of the broadcast will result in a seven-week hiatus.

The work mentioned after "Joseon Exorcist" is "Racket Boys" which recently released its casting lineup. However, since "Racket Boys" is also in the early stages of filming, it is doubtful whether they will be able to advance the broadcast of the show.

As an official pointed out, "Tomorrow, we will start shooting at Tanhyeon. It's in a very early stage". In the midst of this, it is rumored that SBS is still discussing further possibilities.
