Jung Woo-sung First Asian Actor to Star in American TV Drama

Actor Jung Woo-sung will become the first Asian actor to star in a U.S. TV drama.

A drama production industry insider said SSD, the domestic producer of the TV drama "City Hunter", which will star Jeong, has signed a contract with the U.S. drama production firm Fox TV Studios for joint investment, production and distribution.

FTVS is a subsidiary of the large U.S. media group News Corporation, which owns 20th Century Fox, Wall Street Journal and New York Post. FTVS has also produced the popular TV shows "Burn Notice" and "The Shield".

SSD's partnership with FTVS will result in the production of "City Hunter" as a U.S. TV show. The show will consist of several seasons. All 13 episodes of season one will be written in English and will be distributed worldwide.

The show will star many famous Hollywood actors. The majority of the scenes will be filmed in Seoul and Tokyo. Filming will begin early next year.

It has yet to be decided which channel the show will be broadcast in the United States. If FTVS distributes the show on Fox TV, one of the subsidiaries of the News Corporation, all American viewers will be able to see Jung Woo-sung.

"City Hunter" is based on the same-titled popular cartoon by Japanese writer Tsukasa Hojo. SSD, which invested in and distributed "Taewangsasingi", holds the copyright. The cartoon is about private detective Ryo Saeba, who confronts the evil.
