Jung Woo-sung said, "The social network service went crazy when I made the 'refugee statement'" on the Internet podcast "Kim Eo-joon's I See All".

Jung Woo-sung has been a goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR since 2014. Celebrating Refugee Day on the 20th of June, Jung Woo-sung had said, "Be with the refugees. Be their hope through understanding and connection", but he was severely criticized by netizens.

Jung Woo-sung then spent some time replying to the reactions. To the comment, "You live in a nice neighborhood", he said, "I've lived half my life in a poor neighborhood, so don't I deserve to live in a nice neighborhood now? I've earned this. Someone said he was 'undereducated' and he said, "Yes, I am. I only finished middle school".

Kim Eo-joon asked him if he was shocked because of the criticism and Jung Woo-sung said, "Not really. On the other hand, I was worried that the public might get the wrong information about refugees and waste their time and energy. I thought hard about countermeasures to that".

There were words of concern that his political statements might have a negative impact in his acting career and he said, "I have gained so much I have nothing to lose. But then again, so what if I lose something? Because I'm doing something right. I don't mind".

He added, "I think the more I age, the more I should be careful about my actions and words. I'm just a citizen of this country and I think I get to say something about the policies being made in my country".
