Kang Ji-hwan voted actor of the year in Japanese survey

Korean actor Kang Ji-hwan was voted actor of the year in an annual TV survey in Japan, according to his agency S-Plus Entertainment on Wednesday.

A press release by S-Plus said that in an annual poll conducted from December 2 to 20 by INNOLIFE, an online news provider of Hallyu contents in Japan, Kang took 55.4 percent of the votes in a poll on a total 2,662 people to be named favorite Korean actor.

Other Korean actors that appeared on the poll were Jang Keun-suk who came second with 30.4 percent of the votes, followed by Lee Seung-ki with 5.3 percent, Kim Nam-gil 3.9 percent, Jang Hyuk 2.6 percent, Chun Jung-myung 1.7 percent and Ji Jin-hee 0.9 percent.

In the drama section, Kang-starrer "Coffee House (2009)" also topped the chart with 48.6 percent of the votes, followed by "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" which collected 40 percent of the votes, "Bad Guy" 2.8 percent, "Cinderella's Sister" 2.6 percent, "Dong Yi" 2.5 percent and "The Slave Hunters" 2.3 percent.

"Coffee House", which went on air in Korea last year, was lauded for its unique story structure that embraced elements of both drama and sitcom. The drama went into air in Japan in late October.

Kang made his debut in the entertainment industry through the musical "Rocky Horror Show" in 2001 and has since appeared on the small and big screen with his roles in "Be Strong, Geum-Soon!" (MBC, 2005), "Hong Gil-dong, the Hero" (KBS2, 2008) and "My Girlfriend is an Agent" (2009).

He is currently the producer of musical "Cafe In" in Tokyo in which he also plays the lead role.
