Kara's Park Has Surgery on Vocal Chords

Park Gyu-lee, lead singer of girl group Kara, was scheduled to go under the knife on Tuesday to have several vocal fold nodules and polyps removed after she was diagnosed with a problem on her vocal cords last November.

She was warned that her singing career would be in jeopardy if she did not get surgery right away. However, she initially delayed the operation in order to complete the stage rub of her musical "200 Pounds Beauty", which ran from December through January.

Park was also busy preparing for Kara's first solo concert in Korea since the group's debut five years ago. The concert was held on Saturday and Sunday in Seoul.

After the surgery, Park will devote some time to rehabilitation so she can recover in time for the band's Asian tour, which is set to kick off in April in Japan.
