KBS World Advances into U.S. Market

The network on Thursday signed a transmission agreement with Echostar, an American satellite TV service provider.

KBS programs will thus reach 1.85 million U.S. households spanning 5.5 million viewers 24 hours a day as early as this month.

KBS World is one of the free basic channels provided by Echostar to its subscribers.

The new service will benefit ethnic Korean residents in the United States who previously had to pay extra to watch Korean programming.

The broadcast network is looking to use its U.S. advance for expanding the popularity of Korean pop culture to Latin America.

KBS World airs popular programs from channels KBS 1 and KBS 2, targeting viewers around the globe.
