KCC Plans for Digital Broadcasting by 2013

The government is planning a switchover to digital broadcasting by 2013.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has come up with a master plan to facilitate the digitalization of the nation's broadcasting.

According to the plan, the government will focus on promoting public awareness this year. Next year, it will test the transmission of digital TV signals in select areas. The digitzalization process will begin in earnest by the end of 2012.

Meanwhile, the commission will expand the distribution of inexpensive digital TVs to ensure the low-income viewers' rights.

Next month, the KCC is planning to launch a cross-governmental team comprising of related ministries and broadcasters to come up with detailed plans by the year's end.
