Kim Hyun-joong Inks Deal with Universal Japan

Korean Wave star Kim Hyun-joong has signed a deal with Universal Music Japan, one of a number of major record labels in the country that have been trying to woo him since the success of his first showcase there in July.

With the aid of Universal Music, he will now receive considerable support for his Japan-based activities, ranging from promotional stunts for his album to tour concerts.

Kim talked about his plans for his new album and announced the deal at a press conference on Wednesday, the first day of his Japan tour. Universal Music, the biggest record label in Japan, is leading the Korean Wave trend by including many idol groups among its list of artists, such as Girls' Generation, KARA, BEAST, 4minute and Supernova.

The label spoke highly of Kim, saying that his powerful performance at the showcase in July was impressive and that he has unique charms that appeal to Japanese fans, boding extremely well for his solo activities in Japan.

Meanwhile, Kim held a concert in Osaka on Wednesday, with more scheduled in the seven cities of Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, Yokohama, Nagoya, Tokyo and Fukuoka.
